Who are Friends of Wimbledon Town?
Friends of Wimbledon Town is a community association that exists to help residents have real influence in shaping the future character of our town.
Most of the people who live in, work in or visit Wimbledon cherish the mix of homes, parks, schools, nurseries, shops, restaurants, offices, theatres and cinemas. Residential and commercial buildings are particularly closely interwoven. Wimbledon town is fortunate to have historic buildings such as the library, the Prince of Wales, the Alexandra, Bank Buildings, the station forecourt and the grade 2-listed Old Town Hall. The town has a human scale and the majority of the buildings here are low-rise and therefore provide a feeling of space and allow air to circulate and the sun to shine through.
Friends of Wimbledon Town is strictly non-party-political. We are the successor organisation of Friends of Wimbledon Town Centre, which was formed in 2015 in response to the proposals for Crossrail 2 that would have required the destruction of much of the area around and approaching the station.
